euro palace

new office and commercial building

The new office building filled in a gap site for a long time vacant since the Metro A was built; it structurally completed the north-west end of Václavské náměstí (square). Retail on the ground floor was a natural function to be used in this prime location; in this particular case, it occupied five stories (two of them in the basement). Not until Euro was built, the Koruna Palace had a genuine counterbalance. more

An aerodynamically shaped transparent glass envelope immaterially defines the corner’s volume – its subtlety is allowed by an air-ventilated double glazed façade. A contracting cubic austere mass appears in the second plan established by a layer of adjustable golden screens responding to the interior lighting comfort. On the building’s most prominent place, an internal prism works its way through the calm horizontal mass establishing the dominating tower – a vertical response to the opposite corner with the Koruna Palace. Behind the lightweight glass skin, calming the building’s overall effect down, the mass of the office part is removed where necessary due to the links to adjacent buildings.
