kindergarten jeseniova

new school building

In the competition design for a new kindergarten in the Prague-Žižkov neighbourhood, we tried to impress the jury and the client with a simple, effective, and rational solution. We proposed to separate the mono-functional and enclosed spaces and give them a unifying envelope. And in contrast to this, build a lightweight connecting tissue of common communication spaces. The resulting articulated mass is thus ideally positioned to form and co-operate with the adjacent playing garden. more

Four blocks are connected by a central hall, a smooth transition of the outdoor space inside the building. The two-storey kindergarten consists of four volumes connected by a generous multifunctional hall. The central hall minimises the need for corridors. Everything you need: s staircase, cloakrooms, and a garden are always at your fingertips from every classroom. The main entrance into the building is from a small square on the corner of Jeseniova and Ambrožova streets. This part of the school grounds thus becomes a semi-public space - a natural gathering and waiting place for children and parents, separated from the garden. All facilities requiring their own entrance are located on the ground floor. There are also two classrooms on the ground floor and four on the first floor.
